FACILITATE THE LEARNING

Unit Standard 117871

About the course

A wise man once asked: "What have you told your learners today that they could have discovered for themselves?". He knew the difference between telling and self-discovery – the principle upon which this extraordinary workshop is based.

A facilitated learning experience:

The Facilitate the Learning Workshop offers four days of experiential learning, allowing participants the opportunity to grow and deepen expertise in this crucial classroom skill.

Unit Standards

This workshop meets all the outcomes of unit standard 117871 Facilitate learning using a variety of given methodologies:

This unit standard is set at NQF 5 and earns 10 credits.

Important note: Until recently, this workshop was aligned to unit standard 9958 Facilitate learning through selecting & integrating methodologies, which was at NQF 6 and earned 18 credits. 9958 has now expired and the new NQF 6 unit standard has not yet been registered, In the meantime, we will continue to offer the same learning programme, and will structure the Portfolio of Evidence requirements in such a way that successful candidates will be awarded 117871, but will have the opportunity to upgrade to the NQF 6 standard at no extra cost as soon as that is available.

In addition, this workshop meets the full requirements of Module 3 Delivering Teaching/Training Sessions of the City & Guilds International Diploma in Teaching and Training.

Methodology

The philosophy behind this workshop can be summed up in Guillaume Appolinaire’s words:

Come to the edge, he said.
They said: We are afraid.
They came.
He pushed them … and they flew.

If you have always trained with structure and firm control, facilitating can be a scary option. But if you want learners to own the learning, develop a deep understanding and transfer the learning to long term memory – then you need to know how, when and where to let go. Facilitating is the only training method to choose.

On this workshop you’ll experience the power of discovery learning as a delegate, and you’ll take that risk and try out all the skills yourself in three practicals. You’ll assess your development with the help of your learning team.

You’ll transfer these new skills to your workplace by working on a relevant post-course project.
