About the Workshop
Every learning material developer grows continuously. We grow because we gather new experiences and skills – we learn new techniques as the technology of learning develops. SAQA recognises this and almost every unit standard has outcomes that demand evaluation, reflection and review. This ensures that we reflect our growth in the material and techniques we use and develop.
Evaluation, well planned and implemented, is a critical part of any materials development programme. But we must evaluate correctly. We must evaluate against valid criteria and to present standards. Evaluation is all about making a value judgment and we can only make a value judgment if our value systems meet up with those of SAQA. Unit standard 9938 identifies the value system required for evaluating learning programmes.
This practical workshop builds upon a foundation of accepted evaluation principles.
• You’ll have the opportunity to apply these principles in a series
of simulations.
•
You’ll analyse feedback and interpret results
•
You’ll develop recommendations arising from your interpretations.
•
You’ll apply this learning to the evaluation of your own learning programmes.
Unit Standards
This workshop meets all the outcomes of unit standard 9938 Evaluate learning programmes:
• Design evaluation strategies for learnerships/learning programmes
•
Implement evaluation strategies, adapting them or having them adapted as necessary
•
Compare/match/judge evaluation results
•
Generate findings in order to recommend future improvements
•
Evaluate the feasibility of evaluation-generated recommendations
•
Reflect on the effectiveness of the evaluation strategies.
•
You’ll transfer these new skills to your workplace by working on your
post-course project that forms the major par of your portfolio of competence
•
This unit standard is set at NQF 5 and earns 12 credits.
Methodology
This workshop is fully interactive. We draw upon the inherent skills and
experience of all learners gain from the experience of the facilitators and
other delegates. We offer this two-day programme experientially, to ensure
excellent transfer and retention of all these values (outcomes). Experiential
learning allows participants the opportunity to grow and deepen expertise in
a highly motivational way.
Your Learning Journey
The course broadly follows the sequence:
• An introduction to learning programme evaluation
•
A look at evaluation methods and principles and their application to different
environments
•
Strategising for evaluation
•
Data gathering for evaluation of learning
•
Developing findings from data results
•
Evaluating the findings
•
Pointing the way forward to the portfolio.
